Experimentation, big ideas, and the creation of exceptional theatre is all on the agenda for the inaugural Ballarat Theatre Lab.
A twelve-month program for emerging theatre artists, the Ballarat Theatre Lab seeks expressions of interest from passionate artists ready to take part in this free program created by the City of Ballarat and Regional Arts Victoria.
“We're searching for passionate and bold theatre-makers who want to immerse themselves in new ways of thinking,” says Creative Arts Facilitator for Regional Arts Victoria Malcolm Sanders.
Workshops will take place once a month from March 2016 and will unfold in surprising and inspiring locations across the Ballarat region, ranging from traditional theatre spaces to non-traditional community spaces.
The Lab will be led by the award-winning Present Tense ensemble, a dynamic professional theatre ensemble with strong ties to the Ballarat community.
Present Tense artists include Ballarat luminaries theatre director Bryce Ives and actor Laura Burzacott. The pair met in Ballarat youth theatre and over the past fifteen years have created critically acclaimed theatre around Australia and around the world.
“We will focus on building the individual rigour, curiosity, experimentation and craft of individual participants. Advice and support in the development of new work will be a central feature of the Ballarat Theatre Lab,” says Present Tense Director Bryce Ives.
"We believe in the importance of creating opportunities to foster collaborative relationships among theatre artists in Ballarat. We will strive to ignite conversations which lead to generating new ideas for Ballarat theatre in an ever-changing world,” says Laura Burzacott.
Expressions of Interest close on Friday, March 18. Application forms are available by e-mailing to msanders@rav.net.au
